kewl

have we really been married six months?

yes. may 16, 2009 was 6 months ago.

i've been racking my brain trying to think of a list of all the cool things we did in that six months of marriage, but nothing is coming to me....

....
....
..
.

oh. well, one time we went to wal-mart and walked every single aisle and looked at everything. that was cool.

there was another time once when we dropped our homework at 7pm, said, "forget this" and drove 50 minutes to eat dinner at sweet tomatoes. that was kinda cool too.

oh yeah, my favorite time was when i caught rhett flexing his bicep (and checking it out) while i was saying the prayer for dinner.

but i am pretty sure those are the only cool things we have done in 6 months.

on the contrary, we have finished college credits, worked, and started applications to 24 different PhD programs...and giggled and smiled through all of it. which is kind of cool, i guess.

i love that we have not left this town in 6 months or done anything "cool" but i have had more fun this six months of marriage than any other time in my life.

The Results are in!

I would just like to thank everyone that participated in my survey. For those who care, here is a brief summary of the results. (I initially tried to copy and paste the SPSS output, but it didn't turn out so pretty. So, if I've done this correctly, these are the overall results)

Just so you know, here's what each Sex Role means:
  • Masculine - Average score for masculine items was above 4.9 and the average score for feminine items was below 4.9.
  • Feminine - Average score for feminine items was above 4.9 and average score for masculine items was below 4.9.
  • Undifferentiated - Average scores for both masculine and feminine items were below 4.9.
  • Androgynous - Averages scores for both masculine and feminine items were above 4.9.
N = 54 (13 Males and 41 Females)

Descriptive Statistics for Females (n = 41):
- Frequency of Masculine scores = 4 (9.8%)
- Frequency of Feminine scores = 17 (41.5%)
- Frequency of Undifferentiated scores = 9 (22.0%)
- Frequency of Androgynous scores = 11 (26.8%)

Descriptive Statistics for Males (n = 13)
- Frequency of Masculine scores = 5 (38.5%)
- Frequency of Feminine scores = 1 (7.7%)
- Frequency of Undifferentiated scores = 1 (7.7%)
- Frequency of Androgynous scores = 6 (46.2%)

Finally, from the t-test output for independent samples:
PLEASE NOTE - this post has been edited because I found out that the results actually ARE significant, contrary to what was posted previously.

Masculinity - t(52) = 3.97, p<.05
- This means that gender is a significant predictor of masculinity.

Femininity - t(52) = 2.43, p<.05
- This means that gender is a significant predictor of femininity.

It is STILL November 8th

Which means that it is still Whitney Carol* Blaesser's 27th birthday.

Whitney has been one of my best friends ever since I got home from my mission. We like doing fun things together like dressing up in costumes, even when Whitney has a broken limb.

When we're not dressing up, we like to throw food at each other and at our family members.

Happy Birthday Whitney. Thanks for being such a good older sister.

the smelly couple

rhett and i have often wondered if anyone has referred to us as, "that smelly couple"

how are you to know when you are constantly with yourself and one another?

but now we are pretty confident that we are, indeed, the smelly couple

one week ago, we found our carpet resembling this photo
no that's not our carpet, nor was our wet spot as large

yet a week of wet carpet really begins to stink up a bedroom, as well as all of your wardrobe....and your sheets...and i am pretty sure our human bodies

will people still want to be friends with the smelly couple?

somethings never change

how is it possible that every fifth grader in my classroom is pulling the same,"watch me crack my nose" trick that i did in fifth grade? (you know, when they move their nose and then make a click noise with their nail and their tooth)

and they do the exact same patty cake girly chants that i did

and the exact same jokes

and the exact same paper hand things that you choose a number and a category, then open it up after you count, and find out your future, "you're going to be a model"(do these things have a name?)

how do these things get passed on from generation to generation?

This Girl . . .

Monica
Monster
Mon
Monstar

Whatever you know her as, it's her birthday today.
Not just any birthday. Today She is 24, which means she is finally old enough - according to Thomas Family tradition - to be married to me.

I would like make a formal apology to all members of the Thomas family for marrying the youngest of the family 4 months too soon. If it makes you feel any better, she still hasn't changed her name at the Social Security office.

I would go on an on about how great Monica is, but anyone who has even briefly met her can see how wonderful she really is.

Happy Birthday, Monica.

Moving In: Part 2

Some of you may remember the story of what Monica went through to get our couch. That was just the beginning of our problems. After buying the couch, we had no place of our own to keep it. Fortunately, we were able to keep the couch at Nick and Shannon's before moving it into the garage behind our house for a few days. The day we starting moving things in, the couch was the last item we tried to move in. I say "tried" because after 2 1/2 hours, removing the feet from the couch, two doors off their hinges, removing the entry-way light fixture, and help from our neighbor Landon, we were forced to surrender and put the couch back in the garage. I had nearly given up hope, but Monica was more optimistic and insisted that if we remove the trim from the doorway, the extra half-inch would give us enough room to get the couch in.

It worked.

Not only that, but fortunately we were able to take the trim off in one piece and put it back perfectly. We're not quite sure how we'll get the couch out. . .

Our mattress was one of a handful of items that was not purchased from Craigslist. Luckily, the RC Willey Clearance Outlet we bought it from is only around the corner - especially since we were geniuses and decided to buy a mattress on a rainy day.

I'll let you guess which of these items was the most frightening to carry down a narrow, bendy stairway.

Junkified

At least we had this to sit on until we had the energy to try to move the couch in one more time.

Moving In: Part 1

This is what our basement looked like when we first moved in (over 2 months ago)

This is the stairway down from the front entry. The handrails have been removed since this photo was taken.

This is our front room and the nook (as we like to call it) on the other side of the stairs.

That's me standing in our kitchen. That's the pantry door I'm holding.

Closer view of the kitchen. Those counter-tops are not granite as they might appear.

This is the bedroom.

Bedroom closet.

Bathroom.

And finally, the laundry room.

We really like our place. Please come and visit.

Stay tuned for what Monica's done with the place since we moved in.

two months

today we have been married two months.
let us celebrate.

my celebration included:
  • 7 hours of class
  • 6 hours of working on my thesis
  • 1 hour of staring at the wall waiting for rhett to get home
rhett's celebration included:
  • doing the dishes
  • making the bed
  • 9 hours of mentoring teenage boys
i think we'll continue the celebration with a brown sugar pop tart

ps- i know it's cheesy, but the last two months have been the happiest months ever

happy fourth

last year my mother got our family matching old navy t-shirts for our fourth of july family reunion

i'm not so sure she read the shirts before she purchased them...
although it wasn't appropriate for a family reunion...
i think i may just pull it out for this year's festivities

i'll sleep on it

there is something sad about having to get out of bed at 6:45 am for statistics when your husband is still sound asleep next to you

there is something happy about him waking up from a deep sleep and his first statement of the day solving all of your problems:

"you should try dragging your SPSS folder from you mac desktop onto the PC desktop through the VMware Fusion program."

thank you rhett for solving all of my statistical problems just by waking up and saying the first thing that came to your mind

ps- if you do not know what spss is, please do not find out
